Tourism in Salerno… The world in one province: a mixture of landscapes and natural gems full of history, legends and traditions just waiting to be discovered.

The northern side of the capital of this province is divided between the famous Amalfi Coast, one of the most enchanting tourist destinations in the world, and the Agro Nocerino Sarnese which, facing Vesuvio, is washed by the ancient and solemn River Sarno (Silarus), making it the second area of flat land, along with Piana del Sele.

The latter, an unhealthy marshland until 1900, is nowadays a highly productive agricultural region and a great tourist attraction, thanks most of all to Paestum, one of the most important archaeological areas of Italy.

Piana del Sele wedges itself between the Monti Picentini (Picentini mountains), defined as the “reservoir of drinkable water” of southern Italy, and Cilento, a vast region full of charming landscapes where the natural environment is among the most interesting and spectacular in the south of Italy.

Indeed, the environmental nature of so many areas in the province of Salerno, primarily for the extraordinary beauty and uniqueness of its landscapes, has led them to become UNESCO World Heritage Sites: an international recognition which rewards a policy committed to maintaining the right balance between environmental and cultural values, without underestimating the importance of tradition
