| Once again this year comes the awaited Capodanno Bizantino | | For three days Amalfi, the undisputed pearl of the Mediterranean, relives its history, revisiting settings, culinary dishes, customs, traditions and old musicality.
Amalfi celebrates its unique Byzantine New year through historical commemorations, medieval animations, conventions, and theatrical and musical shows.
This event (organised with the patronage of the Comune di Amalfi, Comune di Atrani, Provincia di Salerno, Regione Campania, Centro di Cultura e Storia Amalfitana, and Azienda Autonoma di Soggiorno e Turismo) aims to recall the investiture of the Duke of Amalfi, guardian and arbiter of the law.
Since 1999 this commemoration serves as a recognition granted to an illustrious Italian jurist, taking place on the 1st of September, the date considered as the beginning of the administrative year during the era of the old Maritime Republic.
This is an ancient tradition that is relived every year with considerable participation from not only the local residents, but above all, the tourists, that marvel at this timeless show held in such an enchanting town as Amalfi. |
