| From the XIX century to this day, Corbara has not lost the beauty of its landscapes, its wholesomeness and the quiet enchanting life on the edge of nature, that charmed Guy de Maupassant. Just as it was in the past, Corbara remains an oasis of peace on the hill, not far away from the big economic, tourist and cultural centres of Campania. The historic city centre still preserves the old structure “a corte” (in courts).
To visit it would present a rare occasion to journey into the past and the neighbourhood life of the courtyards, typical of the south of Italy. Corbara is also the ideal place to spend a holiday close to nature, thanks to its numerous mountain paths and springs.
The hills where Corbara is located have always been inhabited, even in very ancient times. In regard to this, the ruins of an impressive rustic villa, with its attached stoves and reservoirs, and a nearby Roman necropolis, located in casa Lanario, are worth mentioning.
Corbara was comprised within the Universitas Sancti Aegidii until the beginning of the XI century. Then, the erection of the Chiesa di San Bartolomeo Apostolo (1504) marked the independence of this small town, which became Università di Corbara. Today Corbara is a quiet town, well known for its healthiness and for its pace of life.
Worth a mention is the Calata dell’Angelo, an annual event that takes place on the third Sunday of July. Also of equal importance and interest is the agosto Corbarese (Corbarese August), a summer kermes full of musical and cultural events.
In Corbara it is also possible to practice various sports in touch with nature. Particularly prosperous are horse riding, hiking and free riding.
